Spelthorne Conservative Association Statement on Spelthorne Council’s Commercial Investments
Cllr John Boughtflower, Conservative Group Leader & Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council issued a statement regarding the Council's commercial investments programme.
The statement reads:
Residents may have seen media articles highlighting the concerns of the Council’s auditors, KPMG, about property purchases made in 2017/18. As is their duty, KPMG asked certain questions which were not answered to their satisfaction by the prior Administration. The new Leadership of the Council is committed to resolving these matters quickly, and to the best of their ability.
Cllr. John Boughtflower, Conservative Leader of Spelthorne Borough Council said:
“We are determined to resolve this matter as quickly and diligently as possible. During this process, transparency is essential. At a time of national crisis such as this, we need to be focussing 100% on the health, security and well-being of our residents and not being distracted by historic issues which may have been created by a past Administration. That being said, the matter raised by KPMG does need our urgent attention - residents must be assured that Spelthorne Council is stable and in a strong position to continue delivering excellent services.
I am grateful for the support which we are receiving from sensible, resident-focussed, likeminded councillors from within the recognised political parties. It is important we join together to resolve this issue. Only then can we seek to understand how the current situation arose and learn from it.”
“We Conservatives pledged a new era of openness in Spelthorne Council. Without fear or favour, we will get to the truth and reassure our Residents”
The statement was issued by the Spelthorne Conservative Association on behalf of Conservative Group Leader Cllr John Boughtflower.
