Night-time street lights have been switched back on in Spelthorne.
Following a decision made by Surrey County Council last year to turn off night-time street lighting across the whole of Surrey, an agreement has been made to reinstate night lighting in Spelthorne for an initial period of five years, on the understanding that Spelthorne Council covers the cost of doing so. The other boroughs in Surrey are also being offered the opportunity to do the same.
Cllr Ian Harvey, Leader of Spelthorne Council, said: “I am very pleased that we have been able to resolve this with the County Council. Lots of concerns were raised by residents about the switch off, many of whom are shift workers, so I am glad we have been able to respond to those concerns.”
