Long standing local resident Colin Barnard to stand in Shepperton by-election
Community activist and Shepperton resident Colin Barnard has been selected by local Conservatives to fight the forthcoming Shepperton by-election. Spelthorne Conservative Chairman and Shepperton resident Mike Brennan said "I'm delighted Colin is standing as our Conservative candidate. He's well known in Shepperton and - like Robert Watts - a community champion. We couldn't ask for a better more committed local candidate. Colin will be a solid councillor and someone who will continue Roberts good work"
Colin Barnard said "It is a great honour to be asked to stand as the Conservative candidate for Shepperton. It's tinged with sadness because of the circumstances but I'm determined to put the people of Shepperton first just as Robert Watts did".
The by-election is to be held on Tuesday 15 Dec 2015
Colin fell in love with Shepperton having cruised the Thames on many occasions with his wife Barbara and their family. Such was his love for the area that, having built up his own successful bakery, when he passed the business to his sons Colin settled in Shepperton nearly 14 years ago.
As a strong believer in the importance of the local community, Colin immediately joined the local residents association where he lives, and is now a Director. Colin also joined the Parochial Church Council of St. Nicholas Church and took on responsibility for the major restoration project which has seen him and others fight long and hard for Heritage Lottery funding.
Always ready for a challenge and as a great lover of the River Thames and all things nautical, Colin crossed the English Channel in his own boat accompanying the Dunkirk Little Ships on their 75th Anniversary trip earlier this year.
Besides being active in the local community Colin also sings in the church choir, is a keen musician and enjoys researching family history.
