Brussels Update

Dear Colleagues,

We are living in difficult and challenging times, whether it is geopolitical tensions, the threat of terrorism or faltering global markets. With a myriad of political and economic hotspots that have the potential to undermine growth, the economic and geopolitical outlook for 2016 looks more unsettled this year than it has in decades.

I am sending you this report as part of my endeavour to inform my constituents about my activities and the wider activities of the European Union. In our corner of the world, the UK’s upcoming referendum on our relationship with the EU will have broad ramifications for Britain’s place in the world, as well as the future of our own Union and the European Union as a whole.

The report includes news stories for January, a myth-buster on the EU accounts, and a piece on the Digital Single Market.

All the best for 2016,

Richard Ashworth.
